A Wonderful Volunteer Week

This has been an awesome week for me volunteering for the Mount Washington Observatory. This is the second time I have been up, and I still am amazed and honored to be a part of the crew. This week had quite the variety of weather. I had time to hike, which is particularly nice because I get to start from the top and loop back. I got to see an Aurora, which is something I was very excited to see, although I was warned to be underwhelmed. We looked out at the horizon and saw some vague color. Then when we look at the camera shot of it, you can see so much more color and detail. I was still very happy to get the chance to see it. I got to help out with the Sunset Soiree event. Our job was to help hand out cookies, and this job makes one very popular, so it was fun interacting with all the guests. We got to have a champagne toast on the deck, although we could pretty much just see the champagne with the fog. It was still a happy toast.

This year I also got to experience hurricane force winds. Although I decided maybe it wasn’t worth stepping outside into hurricane force winds with rain and fog, but I got to experience them through the open door. It is so noisy! I really enjoyed the experience.

One of my favorite things to do when I am up top is to get up early to see the sunrise. It is so magical – just so peaceful and beautiful!

So, overall it was a lovely experience. I would recommend it to everyone!
