Employment opportunities exist at our weather station and Extreme Mount Washington museum on the summit of Mount Washington, and in our administrative offices in downtown North Conway, NH.
Summit positions require an eight-day shift on the mountain followed by six days off, while most valley positions follow a more typical Monday through Friday work week. Part-time and seasonal work is available, and we also offer a highly competitive internship program at our summit weather station.

Call for Artists: Illustrations for the White Mountains Almanac
Mount Washington Observatory, the Appalachian Mountain Club, and Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study are seeking a visual artist to contribute illustrations for an annual almanac focused on the climatological and ecological changes recorded in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This almanac, created in collaboration with three scientific organizations, will serve as both a visual resource and scientific tool, showcasing the flora, fauna, and natural ecosystems of this iconic region. Mesonet and Information Systems Technician
Mount Washington Observatory (MWOBS) has operated a weather station at the summit of the Northeast’s highest peak for ninety years. The Mesonet and Information Systems Technician works with the Director of Technology to modernize and upgrade the Mount Washington Regional Mesonet and the Observatory’s information technology.
This role is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the Observatory’s network of remote automated weather stations using diverse communication methods. An IT-focused professional with a strong aptitude for self-teaching and adaptability is essential. The position requires fieldwork in challenging environments—including extreme weather—and demands flexibility in scheduling and location.
