Bunk Room Construction
2014-11-14 16:56:43.000 – Mike Carmon, Weather Observer/Education Specialist
A big change is in the works at the summit weather station.
If you’ve ever visited our weather station, and more specifically our living quarters, you know that our bunk rooms were in need of some serious upgrades. Well, thanks to several generous donations of time and funds, our bunk rooms are in the midst of a complete overhaul! It’s been quite the project, which has consisted of first a complete demo of all of the rooms, which is now being followed up with a revamping and reconstruction of everything within them.
It’s quite interesting watching these rooms as they evolve, and we wait with eager anticipation to see what the finished product will look like. The fact that all of the summit staff had a direct hand in the design of these rooms has made this an extra special process, as we have been able to tailor many things to our tastes and needs.
So, if you’re planning on attending one of our winter overnight trips this season, you’re in for a real treat! If you’ve stayed in our bunk rooms before, perhaps as a summit volunteer, get ready to see some exciting changes and upgrades come this winter.
As the project progresses, future observer comments and social media posts will keep you all in the loop on the progress of this reconstruction.
Until then, we can’t thank the folks that made this possible enough, from John & Billy Gorman and the demo/construction crew, to the volunteers who have helped with the cooking and cleaning through this process, as well as those who made this long-overdue project possible with their generosity. Many thanks to all!
