It is a big time for the Observatory and for everyone that loves Mount Washington. At a press event Thursday morning, we unveiled our plans for ‘Extreme Mount Washington,’ a brand new, interactive winter experience at the summit of Mount Washington, coming in spring of 2014.
Welcoming more than 100,000 visitors each year, New Hampshire’s most visited museum is located, amazingly, atop New England’s tallest peak. Originally created in 1973, Mount Washington Observatory’s summit museum has offered its visitors a look at the mountain’s natural and human history, and has served as the cornerstone of our organization’s education program for four decades.
Next spring, the summit museum will be completely reborn. Stripped down to the studs, reinvigorated and entirely reimagined, the new museum is being designed to deliver the awe and wonder of Mount Washington’s winter fury to the peak’s summer visitors from all over the world.

The new museum represents a giant leap forward for the overall Mount Washington visitor experience and we are so proud to make it happen.
$719,175 has been raised towards our goal of $825,000, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the foundations, companies and individuals that generously brought the fundraising campaign to this point. Now, we turn to our members, donors, and fans to help us close out the campaign. Friends, you can make this project a reality.
