Learning Experience

While working at the observatory this summer, I’ve really been wanting to learn a lot more about meteorology. For those of you who read my comment back in June, I mentioned how I used to think I was going to go to school for meteorology back when I was 15 and used to come up to the mountain yearly for tours. Well, that ended up not happening, but I still love meteorology and the Observatory, which is how I ended up working here.

Finally, as I started classes this fall for school, I found that it was a perfect opportunity to take a meteorology course! I love my class and it’s amazing how much I’ve learned in the past three weeks since the class started. My professor is awesome and just happens to be Marsha Rich, one of the Observatory trustees! So far I’ve started to learn how to interpret the different models, so its nice to finally be able to have a understanding of what everyone is talking about now. I also post two observations a week for the class, so it gives me even more a understanding/taste of what the observers do everyday.

Now, as some cold weather is starting to move in this week, I want to remind everyone that there’s still some time to come visit the Observatory! The fall colors are showing throughout the valley and especially on those days when were out of the fog! Winter is just around the corner, so get here while you can. Just remember if you’re hiking to take special note to what the weather conditions are for that day and check out our high summits forecast!
