More About Our First Taste of Winter

Contrasting colors
Lots has been said over the last couple of days about the recent wintry weather and, well, I’m going to say even more.
Fog cleared off shortly after sunrise this morning, and revealed some very nice scenery. Although there weren’t a lot of clouds above us, the deep blue skies contrasted against the bright white rime ice and snow made for some very nice pictures. Also, the contrast between the whitewashed higher summits and the early fall colors in the valley below is one of my favorite things about the fall transition season on Mount Washington. I attached one of my favorite pictures from this morning to this post, but you check out a bunch more on an album that was created on our page on Facebook. By the way, you don’t have to be registered on Facebook to view that album.
Unfortunately, in some ways, it looks as though the weather will turn more seasonable starting tomorrow, with temperatures mostly in the 30’s and 40’s during the day over at least the next 5 days or so. This back and forth is very typical of this time of year though; we don’t typically see winter conditions really set in until October. In fact, between now and then, it wouldn’t be completely unheard of to have some days with temperatures pushing towards 60.
Until we see a return of rime ice and snow, yesterday’s sneak peek will have to tide me over!
