Battle of the seasons

So April has arrived and the weather is starting to transition. Over the past few days the seasons have been battling for control of the summits. We have seen snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain, felt strong winds and almost flat calm, and of course there’s been lots and lots of fog. The mercury has been right up into the 40s and back down into the teens.

On Friday we received nearly two-thirds of an inch of rain. This coupled with two days of above freezing temperatures and dense fog really put a dent in the summit snow pack. On Saturday we had a couple of brief breaks in the fog when the visibility shot up to nearly a quarter of a mile allowing us to see lots of bare rocks and vegetation.

Saturday night brought a return to colder temperatures along with some snow and freezing fog. Everything has turned white again, however, looking ahead to Monday it appears that we will be back into warmer temperatures with another spell of rain.

In the battle of the seasons summer seems to be winning.
