Another volunteer week with new excitement

After serving a winter week as a volunteer for over 8 years, I thought I had seen everything. However, the mountain always has a new surprise around the corner. In the past years, I have seen the temperature hit a record daily high of 34 and then the following day, hit a record daily low of -26. I’ve seen winds constantly over 100 mph for 12 hours.
This year after 5 days of near zero (above and below) temperatures and winds varying from near zero to gusts over 100 mph, there was a rapid warming yesterday to 35 degrees with winds gusting again to over 100 mph. This is probably old hat to the staff here, but it was a new experience for me.
This week has been interesting not only for the weather but also for the diverse groups that co-volunteer Janet Standley and I have served. We had a hiking trip of LL Bean employees, a day trip and a German student group who are here for a week. This is the third time I have been here when the Germans were here and was also the third time with the LL Bean group. These are always fun groups to be with. Volunteering here is a great experience!!!
