Dear Member,
Like so many of us, our weather observers are finding festive ways to enjoy the season. Shift members celebrated Thanksgiving together at the summit, and the team staffing the weather station this week is excited to decorate the Christmas tree provided by our generous volunteers.
It’s wonderful that our summit staff can celebrate the season as they carry out the responsibility of continuous weather observation in Mount Washington’s extreme environment. They support each other to accomplish this, alongside their forecasting, research, and educational work.
If you haven’t already seen our new Education Impact video, it captures some of the dynamic, hands-on programs that you make possible. We look forward to sharing more Observatory highlights this month during our 2023 Year-End Campaign.
Thanks to all who have given to our campaign, we exceeded our match goal of $30,000 from our Board of Trustees in November, and we are on our way to raising $270,000 by January 1, our campaign goal.
The incredible generosity of our community has already helped us raise $153,600. This is great news, but we still have work to do. Your support not only pays for logistics like getting our summit crew up and down the mountain each week, but also for snowcat maintenance needed between seasons.
Your gifts fund research and discovery, as our team continues in earnest to understand the effects of liquid precipitation falling on snow pack, and how rain-on-snow events may be increasing flood potential and avalanche risk. This work will help communities and businesses prepare for extreme weather in our region as well as support recreation and safety for our backcountry community.
Thank you to everyone for your amazing support. If you haven’t already, please consider helping us achieve our year-end goal with a gift today.
Sincerely,
