Today marked the 50th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s, “I Have a Dream” speech. With his words “Let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire… from every mountainside, let freedom ring,” he moved to conclude his dramatic speech. To commemorate this day, the King Center coordinated a bell-ringing event. At 3pm, from mountain tops across the country, bells rang out. On the summit of Mount Washington, the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Lakes of the Clouds Croo, Mount Washington State Park, and the Mount Washington Observatory gathered and joined in the ringing of the bells.
