Hackademy and Exciting Upcoming Events

Our Hackademy app team.
The Mount Washington Observatory had been selected for an annual marathon-app-coding event called ‘Hackademy.’ In this event, computer science majors split into several groups of 3-4 students, attending a few crash-courses in app programming, then diving into making the app. The event was sponsored and hosted by Dyn, an internet traffic management and message management powerhouse located in Manchester, NH. The students had approximately 48 hours between when they arrived at Dyn and when they made their final presentation to develop the app.
It was incredible with what all the teams came up with in just two days. The Mount Washington app looked great, and will definitely be a good starting block once we develop one in the future.
In other news the Observatory will be undergoing several new and exciting changes in the near future! The ribbon-cutting on the new Extreme Mount Washington summit museum will occur June 13th! It’s amazing the transformation the museum and gift shop area have gone through. Come check it out this summer season!
The Observatory’s tech team is also hard at work helping to revamp our website! I have personally put many hours putting some of the code together for the new forecast page! Keep an eye on www.mountwashington.org as the alterations will be revealed later this summer!
