The summit museum space that will soon host Extreme Mount Washington is ready for install. Having been outfitted with the necessary lighting, electricity, and carpeting, the exhibit floor, retail shop, and storage space awaits the arrival of exhibits from Massachusetts later this month. As always, the weather will dictate how quickly the exhibit materials make their way to the summit. With a heavy snow year and winter remaining in full control as of this post, we remain flexible with our schedule.
In Norwood, Massachusetts, Mystic Scenic Studios is hard at work continuing the development and fabrication of the museum exhibits. The final inspection and approval of the exhibits takes place on Wednesday, May 14 and delivery and install is planned for the week of May 19 (weather permitting), with 100% completion by May 31. Our retail space will be fully operational over Memorial Day Weekend, and we may be able to offer a “sneak preview” of some portion of the museum at this point. Stay tuned for updates on that end as we remain vigilant and infinitely flexible, given the weather and road conditions atop Mount Washington. We will be holding an invitation-only Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at the summit in mid-June, which will include Observatory staff, trustees, and the generous supporters who made this project a reality. U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte and Governor Maggie Hassan are also slated to be in attendance as we celebrate this remarkable milestone for Mount Washington, the North Country and New Hampshire as a whole. For continued updates and pictures of the project, please follow our blog at Extreme Mount Washington.
