In partnership with Cannon Mountain we have placed a new Weather Station at the top of the Cannonball Chair Lift that’ll provide Temperature, Humidity, Wind and Icing data along with Webcam pictures for both Cannon Mountain and the Mount Washington Observatory. If you haven’t visited the Mount Washington Regional Mesonet page lately you may want to take a look.
It takes a lot of coordination and work to get a new Mesonet Weather Station up and running. There’s a site selection process then working with the site owners to get permission to erect a Weather Station. At most sites all of the instrument mountings and enclosures are custom made to fit the location. At Cannon we had to erect a tower at the top of a ski lift – That means transporting tower sections and mounting hardware along with the instruments, tool including things like a welder to the top of a mountain.
With any project like this there are always the unexpected challenges that come along however it’s very satisfying when you see that first data posted on the Web site.
I’d like to thank all of the fine folks at Cannon Mountain that helped us make this possible.
