March not going out like a lamb

March does not seem like it will be going out like a lamb this year. What an interesting beginning to Spring it has been. Nine days ago, last Friday, it was 60 degrees and sunny. I was very comfortable skiing in a t-shirt. Today, I woke up to a temperature of -9 and winds gusting into the 80s. The wind did not let up all day and temperatures barely broke the zero degree mark. In between I skied 9 inches of powder at Wildcat and experienced an unexpected foot of snowfall over the last two days here on the summit. The summit was clear of fog and clouds all day today. This made for spectacular views of the wind scouring the summit. Fast moving blowing snow could be seen off of Mt. Adams out of Great Gulf. The blowing snow could also be seen blowing back into the entrance as I was shoveling. The high winds have scoured Huntington Ravine. Tuckerman Ravine, on the other hand, has experienced some serious loading. Hopefully this will lead to good ski conditions lasting late into the Spring this year.
