A journey into the Gulf.

Spaulding Lake and Boulders
There has been a definite difference in the weather between the two shifts. This shift has been receiving warm weather while the other shift gets colder weather and icing. This has occurred since late August. Hopefully we can break this trend soon. Our glaze and rime ice starved interns have been very patient in their wait to deice the tower. The enduring wait for wild winter like weather will just have to wait until another shift week as of now.
On separate note, I took the early afternoon hours before my shift started to hike down into the Great Gulf. As I lower down the large glacial cirque the rich aroma of evergreens filled the air as the colors of the vegetation became more vibrant. As of today the foliage of yellow and some browns was around Spaulding Lake. Scrambling over boulders, loose rocks, and down streams was thrilling as there was not another soul around. The Great Gulf Wilderness is untamed and large for New Hampshire standards. Surrounded by some of the largest peaks in the northeast, you feel very inadequate to the massive protrusions of rock jutting into the sky or also known as mountains. The Great Gulf continues to leave this observer in awe of its vastness each visit.
