WMC Excavator

There always seems to be something happening here on the summit. The last few days have been really quite nice, with temperatures in the high 40’s and with low humidities. But that is not all we have to talk about.

The ‘biggest’ activity of all – outside of the sheer number of people here on the summit these last few days — is certainly the effort put forward by White Mountain Communications. WMC is the company that is installing the new power line to the summit, and they are making great progress.

Today’s photo shows a WMC excavator as it approaches the location of the last connection chamber, just below the Sherman Adams Summit Building. These guys are working hard now, Saturdays too, because they know that September is just around the corner! Digging has gone very well, and the few large pieces of ledge they have had to contend with are few and far between.

With any luck we will have commercial electrical power here before long, but probably not this summer season. The conduits still need to be run down by Jacobs ladder, and that may prove to be a long and tedious job. At least down at that elevation winter arrives a little later.
