Marty ventures outside

Marty, looking very regal

I’m sorry to report there were no thunderstorms today. There was definitely plenty of instability and convection going on though, as evidenced by the towering cumulus that developed by the late morning hours. The contrast between the billowing clouds and the deep blue sky was pretty neat. An hour or two later, showers started to pop up around the summit although no precipitation actually fell on the mountain itself at the time. Besides the cool clouds and distant showers, this morning was very pleasant. Temperatures rose into the mid 30’s, winds decreased to around 10 mph, and the sun was bright and warm. It was perfect weather for our cat Marty to venture outside for the first time since last fall.

Marty must have known, somehow, that it was going to be a nice day out. He went out briefly early in the morning with Ryan, and then again with me a few hours later. It wasn’t until late morning though that he really started bugging me to go back out, so I took him with me on the 11 o’clock observation. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sunshine on the deck and on the relatively few rocks that are exposed after this past weekend’s snowstorm. He followed me for a bit too as I walked around the geographical summit.

Although tomorrow will still be a pretty nice day by summit standards, increasing winds and cooler temperatures probably won’t make it such a nice day for a cat. Luckily, this is only the beginning of Marty’s ‘outdoor season’.
