Here’s a picture of the diminished snow pack. The calm weather has allowed us to work some other projects this week. Mike has been working on making the Observer’s life a little easier by writing some essential programs, Ryan has been diligently working on his research project, Kyle has been spending some time with wind instruments, and I’ve been working on ideas for the Observatory’s distance learning project. There are more projects. For example, we are currently replacing a Plexi-glass window in our pressurized barograph enclosure, which has turned into a slightly larger project than originally anticipated. There is also the Kitchen Project.
Meat + Spices = Happy observers and interns (at least on our current shift). This is the equation that we all learned this week, while preparing meals for each other. Between omelets, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, an 8.35 lb sirloin roast, sausage & peppers, and tacos, there was always the common ingredient of cayenne pepper. Though we thoroughly enjoyed learning where everything lives in the kitchen and how to properly use the oven and dishwasher, we definitely missed the presence of a volunteer this week. This absence has made us all much more appreciative of the energy, time, and hard work each volunteer contributes to the organization. We had a relatively quiet week, with little weather worries and only one overnight trip, so the work load was manageable. However, it pains me to think if this had occurred one month ago, when we were missing an observer and had a full week of Edutrips and climbing trips, and a lot to worry about weather wise. So, on behalf of the summit crew, THANK YOU to all of our volunteers, who take so much of their valuable time and spend it with us on the summit, cooking and cleaning. You’re hard work and dedication to the Observatory is greatly appreciated.
