Seek the Peak Celebrates Hiking in the White Mountains this Weekend


Gorham and Conway, NH, July 16,
2024 – The nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory (MWOBS) invites all to celebrate outdoor adventure during the 24th Annual Seek the Peak, with fun activities for the entire family at the Après Hike Expo taking place Saturday, July 20 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center in Gorham, NH.

“It’s the largest gathering of family fun New England has seen this year,” said Drew Bush, MWOBS Executive Director. “We invite outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to join us at this annual celebration of hiking in the White Mountains and the Observatory’s dedicated community of supporters.”

The MWOBS education team has partnered with area nonprofits such as White Mountain Science, Believe in Books, Tin Mountain Conservation Center, Blue Hill Observatory, and Kismet Rock Foundation to offer kid-friendly Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) activities and prizes for all children as well as kite making, a race to gear up like an observer, a 28-foot rock climbing wall, an opportunity to climb aboard the MWOBS snow cat, plus many other games and competitions.

Guests can enjoy a Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant catered meal, live music, an expanded raffle of hiker prizes, FREE giveaways, food, beer garden with Tuckerman Brewing Company, and 40+ vendors including Eastern Mountain Sports, Minus33, Oboz, NEMO Equipment, Peter Limmer & Sons, Ragged Mountain Equipment, and many more. Expo and meal tickets are available at seekthepeak.org or can be purchased at the door on July 20, with all proceeds supporting the Observatory’s work in weather forecasting, research, and education.

All hikers who participate in fundraising for Seek the Peak receive free entry to the Expo, a complimentary meal ticket, and many prizes including locally designed t-shirts, exclusive backpacks, commemorative patches, Minus33 hiking socks, and tickets to the annual gear raffle. “Many choose to hike Mount Washington for Seek the Peak,” said Charlie Buterbaugh, MWOBS Director of External Affairs. “But at its core, the event is about choosing any hike, any day to enjoy outdoor recreation while supporting the Observatory.”

All are invited to the Seek the Peak kick-off party at Tuckerman Brewing Company, in Conway, NH, on Friday, July 19 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, featuring live music, hiker check-in, MWOBS staff and volunteers sharing the weather forecast and trails conditions, and outdoor brand representatives from Oboz, Minus33, and the Sounds Like a Search and Rescue Podcast.

Seek the Peak is presented by Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center and Eastern Mountain Sports with additional support from Tuckerman Brewing Company, Mount Washington Radio Group (93.5 WMWV, Magic 104.5, and Easy 95.3), Martini Northern, NEMO Equipment, Minus33, Oboz, Peter Limmer & Sons, Mount Washington Cog Railway, Mt.
