A Very Big Thank-You: Seek the Peak 2017

2017-07-25 13:21:44.000 – Taylor Regan, Weather Observer

Over the past few days, several hundred hikers have descended upon the trails, mostly in the White Mountain region, the result of a fundraising effort to benefit the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory. The yearly fundraiser culminated in a dinner at the base of the Mount Washington Auto Road to celebrate the hardworking fundraisers who came out to show support for the Observatory. The dinner and “after-party” had gear giveaways, demos, and other interesting tents set up for participants to explore, while the turkey dinner was prepared. Afterwards, prizes were raffled off and a good time was had by all.

During the day, hikers who were able to “seek the peak” of the tallest mountain in the Northeast (Mount Washington) were treated to a VIP tour of the summit weather station, with fresh baked cookies waiting, courtesy of our summit volunteers Johanna and Dennis Vienneau.

This year’s Seek the Peak event resulted in raising $157,964 to support the mission of the Observatory, and provide necessary funds to operate the mountaintop weather station that has been providing continuous weather data since 1932. We at the summit in particular are especially humbled and appreciative of all of the hard work by participants and volunteers alike. From all of us here at the observatory, we would like to say thank you, and hope to see you next year!
