A Well Deserved Weather Break

After a very snowy and foggy week, the next few days of clear and mild weather are a welcome sight for us here on the summit. Over the past week the summit received over 21 inches of snowfall, with our depth on the ground rising from only around 6 inches to 18 inches currently. Before today, every day this week has seen fog for at least a portion of the day, with very little in the way of any sunshine.
Tonight and Tuesday are expected to be clear, with a well-deserved break in the fog and snow. In fact, precipitation likely would be rain if any were to occur today as temperatures rose well above zero and have even approached a daily record high today in the lower 40s. Luckily for the ski resorts and winter enthusiasts, this warm spell will be short lived, and the deep snow pack in place will likely survive through the next few days before colder air and more snow arrive with a frontal passage on Wednesday. After this the models have temperatures remaining below freezing on the summit right into next week, so there should will be plenty of snow atop New England’s highest peak for Christmas!
