Back From Vacation

Today was the first day I have been on the mountain since August 8th. Since then, I had been on vacation. Back in the spring, I also took some vacation time for a 6,000 mile road trip across a good portion of the country. This time, my vacation time was not quite so unique. I went back to where I grew up: central PA. While I was there, I got to spend lots of time with family and friends, and also had the opportunity to coach some soccer at my former high school. All in all, a great vacation.

At the same time, It was good to be back on the mountain today, partially because of the weather. When I arrived at the summit this morning, there was a stiff breeze (about 40-50 mph) and the air was cool and crisp (in the mid 30’s). The feeling of all was definitely in the air. Of course, this isn’t completely atypical for this time of year, especially given that the record low for August 29th is 20 degrees.

Although temperatures will quickly warm back up to more seasonable levels over the next few days, today still served as a distinct reminder that summer is on its way out.
