Meow
Meow 2012-06-02 16:53:39.000 - Marty, Summit Cat Daily Bath It has been quite some time since I updated you on my life here on the summit of Mount Washington. Since today is most defiantly an indoor day I can spare a few minutes between naps to fill you in. With the summit now open I am enjoying wandering around the deck on nice days rubbing up against the legs of visitors reminding them I am top cat. Sometimes I need to stare down other four legged creatures on leashes. Don't they know this is my territory? When not out on
Summit Sunrise
Summit Sunrise 2012-06-01 17:15:11.000 - Steve Harshman, Summit Intern Sunrise Hello from the summit!First off, I'll introduce myself. I'm Steve Harshman, a new summit intern for the summer. I first arrived on the peak this Wednesday and we've been lucky enough to have some beautiful weather over the last few days. An avid hiker, I've scrambled up Washington a few times before and vowed I would never get to the top another way. Sadly I had to break this oath when taking the van up the Auto Road, but hey, I sure can't complain, being privileged enough to spend my

Volunteer Comments
Volunteer Comments 2012-05-30 23:28:31.000 - Jan Berriochoa, Summit Volunteer NULL Phenomenal week!!I took this opportunity at the MWO to better understand the area and the weather that the summit encounters. This was an educational experience of a life time and I could not pass up the chance to come up here for a week. Once chores were done I had ample time to watch and learn Ryan, Roger, Chris and Andy at work. Helped in the MWO gift shop and was able to talk daily with the visitors and listening to there stories of how they drove or hiked up
Volunteer Reflections
Volunteer Reflections 2012-05-29 21:15:31.000 - Noreen McGrath, Summit Volunteer The summit patio view. What can I say about my week volunteering for the MWO crew at the peak of Mt. Washington? Lots of people I know found the fact that I was doing this as my vacation very interesting and others didn't understand why I'd want to go away for a week, with people I've never met, and be 'stuck' on a mountain I 'couldn't' leave. But when I learned of this opportunity last summer - I jumped at the chance. Sounded like a dream vacation to me!A little nervous

Seek The Peak 2012 2012-05-28 23:17:32.000 - Ryan Knapp, Weather Observer/Meteorologist STP and see views like this from this afternoon! STP - three letters that can mean a lot of different things depending on where you work or what you are doing. STP - Standard Talking Points. STP - Six Tall People. STP - Super Tarp Punching? Ok, maybe not, but you get the picture. But for us, STP means only one thing: Seek the Peak. For those not in the know, Seek the Peak is our largest annual fundraiser and helps us operate; and being a nonprofit organization, this
First Thoughts from a Summit Intern
First Thoughts from a Summit Intern 2012-05-27 19:39:04.000 - Adam Brainard, Summit Intern View of the Observatory from Homestretch What a great few days! My name is Adam Brainard, and I am the second of the two summer interns working on this shift at the observatory! I little about myself, I am a junior meteorology major at Valparaiso University, and plan on pursuing a career in meteorological operations (forecasting), perhaps with a focus in the aviation industry. I am certainly honored to be learning how to forecast and observe weather in such a dynamic, beautiful location!Although this is my first

X Marks the Spot 2012-05-26 21:25:51.000 - Roger Pushor, Weather Observer/IT Specialist N 44 degrees 16.253 W 071 degrees 18.198 There's a white "X" painted somewhere on a structure at the Summit of Mount Washington - The "X" serves two purposes - It started out as the "Official" Point of Observation for the Weather Observers who take a Weather Observation once an hour 24 hours a day 365 days a year. This same "X" has also become a place to stand to get your picture taken by one of Mount Washington Observatories Webcams to prove you've found one of the
