On behalf of all of us here at the Obs, I want to thank each and every oneof you who participated in Seek the Peak as a hiker, sponsor or donor.Through your hard work and generosity, Seek the Peak 9 brought in $113,000for the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory, making it the mostsuccessful fundraiser in the 77-year history of our organization!
Despite the less-than-beautiful weather, 343 dedicated Obs fans made theclimb to the summit–an increase of almost 100 hikers over last year’sevent! 220 people took advantage of the opportunity to tour the weatherstation, snapping up over 300 homemade cookies (thanks, summit volunteersDennis and Karen!).
Observatory member Brad Bradstreet won the one-year lease on the 2010 SubaruOutback, and the L.L.Bean Manatee Deluxe Kayak packages went to topfundraiser and Observatory member Ed O’Malley (who raised an amazing$6,862)! A record 17 participants raised at least $1,000, earning aspecially-embroidered Seek the Peak fleece jacket from L.L.Bean.
We wish to thank co-presenting sponsors L.L.Bean and Subaru of America, aswell as the Appalachian Mountain Club, Cairn Leadership School, Cooper,Cargill, Chant, Mount Washington Auto Road, Mount Washington State Park, andthe USDA Forest Service for their event support.
